It is the first time that the canadian company has agreed to filter the internet on its high-security blackberry phones.

Sembiring has given RIM a two-week deadline to block acces to porn site, RIM has also been ordered to set up a server in the country, which will bring all transmited user messages under local jurisdiction, as opposed to the current situation. where the majority of servers are based in the west.

Most other telecoms companies in the country are understood to have already implemented internet filters, blocking access to adult material for the country 40 million internet users

The clampdown stems for indonesia's anti porn bill passed in 2008 by conservative islamic parties to curb the tide of a perceived increasing immorality in indonesia society.
