the home side had the better of the AFC cuo group H clash against in last year's AFC Champions league but fell behind in the 39th minute when a slick move ended with boaz solossa slotting home. however restored parity just before the hour mark with neither side then able to fashion a winner in the remaining 30 inutes.

south china started the better and enjoyed much of the possession in the opening 20 minutes without really threatening the Persipura goal. Lee Chi Ho saw a shoot from outside the box deflected wide afrer driving into space before persipura came agonisingly close to taking the lead in the 37th minute.

Rachmat rivai surged down the left flank and pulled the ball back for the onrushing Zan rahar krangar to meet first time but his side foot effort came back off the underside bar. It was to prove a momentary respite for south china, however, as the visitors went in front two minutes with a clinical effort.

crisp interplay arround the edge of the box between imanuel wanggai and solossa ended with the former slipping in the latter and the persipura skipper calmly side-footed into the far corner of the net. The hosts threatened as the half drew to a close and, following some desperate persipura defending, chan poked the ball out to leung chun pong just inside the box he blazed over. South china started the second period with of intent and were back on terms in the 58th minute.
A long ball down the right from brazilian defender joel found mateja kezman and the former chelsea forward's cross was headed forcefully into bottom corner by chan. Kezman then wasted an excellent chance to give south china the lead in the 72nd minute when he met ex-manchester united midfielder nicky butt's free kick unmarked but headed over from eight yards.

that proved to be the last real chance of the game as south china pressed for the winning goal while persipura looked to hit the hosts on the counter attack but neither could breach each other's resolute defence.
