Wellington: Hurricane hit New Zealand's largest city, Auckland, on Tuesday (3 / 5). A resident reported killed.
Television pictures showed two large pieces of debris were flying after the tornado struck at 15:00 local time Tuesday in suburban Albany. Police received a report one person was killed, said the national news agency NZPA.
Witnesses said the worst affected areas the storm hit is Megacentre Albany shopping center.
"We received reports of major damage in that area and many are injured," said a policeman. He did not confirm the number of victims.
Eyewitnesses Rob Crawford said the location is like a living picture of disaster.
